PLAYING CROWN GREEN BOWLS

Crown green bowls is a game that can be played by people of all ages and abilities.  It offers the health benefits of gentle exercise, mental concentration, hand-eye co-ordination and, of course, the social interaction with other members.

It is very different from lawn bowls, the main differences being that the crown of the green affects the path of the bowl, and that players can chose to bowl to any part of the green and at any length (subject to a minimum distance).

Dress code is informal, the only stipulation normally is to wear flat shoes so as not to damage the green.

Bowls games normally are '21 up'.  Each player has two bowls.  An 'end' consists of one player bowling the yellow jack, then the players bowl alternately towards the jack.  A player wins the end by getting one or both bowls nearer the jack than the opponent's closest bowl. - thus winning either one or two points.  The winner of the end, then leads the jack at the next end.   The first to 21 points wins the game.
